About Wise Spender
Wise Spender is an independent UK website with free calculators and plain-English guides for everyday money decisions: buying a home, paying off a mortgage, saving, investing, planning a pension and setting a budget.
Our aim is simple. Big financial decisions should not need a spreadsheet or a sales call. You should be able to try your own numbers, see what changes, and understand why.
Who writes our content
Our calculators and articles are written and checked by Wise Spender Editorial. We publish under the site name rather than a personal name. Every guide is written for UK readers, uses UK tax rules and the figures for the tax year it covers, and shows the date it was published.
How our calculators work
Each calculator uses standard financial formulas and the UK rules that apply to it, such as the stamp duty bands in force since 1 April 2025. All calculations run in your browser. We never store or send the figures you enter.
Results are estimates. Lenders, pension providers and HMRC apply their own detailed rules, so your real figures may differ.
Where our figures come from
We check rates, thresholds and rules against official and independent sources:
- HMRC and GOV.UK: stamp duty bands, income tax, National Insurance and pension rules
- Bank of England: the Bank Rate and published mortgage rate data
- MoneyHelper: free, government-backed guidance we point readers to
- Financial Conduct Authority: rules on regulated advice and the register of authorised firms
When rates or rules change, we aim to update the affected calculators and guides promptly.
Independence and how we are funded
Wise Spender is free to use and is funded by advertising served by Google. We do not sell products, take commission or publish paid placements, and advertisers have no say in our content.
Not financial advice
We are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and our content is general information, not personal financial advice. For advice on your own situation, use an FCA authorised adviser, or get free guidance from MoneyHelper.
